Kansas City students travel to National Society of Black Engineers Robotics Competition in Californi
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - These Kansas City students are ready for California.
The students traveled to Anaheim, Calif., to compete in the National Society of Black Engineers Robotics Competition.
They represent seven local schools including: St. Patrick’s in Kansas City, Kan., Benjamin Banneker, Hogan Preparatory, Central High School, Lincoln Academy, Pioneer Ridge Middle School, and Academy Lafayette.
All the schools are connected to aSTEAM Village , a group dedicated to getting students and families engaged in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
There are five teams: two in the kindergarten – 3rd grade bracket; two teams in the 4th-8th grade bracket; and one racing team in grades 8 & 9.
The group had hoped to fly to Anaheim, but they couldn’t raise enough money. Instead, they made it a road trip of learning.
In Oklahoma, they saw giant windmills. In Arizona, they visited the world’s largest meteor crater.
The robotics competition begins on Friday.
