Kansas City Middle School Student Selected for Exclusive STEM Workshop Scholarship

Kansas City, MO.

Courtney Crawford, 12, has been chosen from among hundreds of applicants to receive a scholarship to attend the West Point STEM Workshop. This unique middle school program offers students currently in 6th and 7th grade the opportunity to participate in hands-on science, technology, engineering and mathematics activities taught by West Point Academy faculty and cadet mentors.

Her mom, Chantel Crawford said she knew it was a long shot but is proud and excited for her daughter who is well prepared for this advanced camp from her active participation in the wide variety of programs offered by aSTEAM Village since 2nd grade, including Robotics, Ten80, NASA’s Student Space Exploration Program and STEAM summer camps.

She said attending the West Point STEM Workshop will help Courtney get outside her box and comfort zone and meet new people.

A sixth grader at Center Middle School and aspiring atmospheric and space scientist, Courtney said she had always wanted to go to science camp and was inspired to apply for the camp by her teachers, her participation in Robotics and her mom.

Her aSTEAM Village coach, William Wells, said, “This is a well-deserved honor. Courtney comes to work hard every day and with a smiling face.”

The camp will take place May 24-27 at the West Point Center for Leadership and Diversity in S.T.E.M. in West Point, N.Y.
